About the Gloucestershire Swedish Club

Gloucestershire!
The Gloucestershire Swedish Club started in October 2007 as the
'Cheltenham Swedish Group', and changed its name in May 2008 to reflect
the growing membership and interest over a wider area. We are a fun informal
group with the aim of bringing together people interested in the language and
culture of Sweden. There are members of different ages and backgrounds,
representing all ranges of language abilities - some fluent, some intermediate,
and some speaking only a little Swedish, so some conversations are in Swedish
and some are in English.
We offer a programme of interesting and
enjoyable events, such as talks, slide shows, social events, quiz evenings, also
of course Lucia and Midsommar, and more. The Gloucestershire Swedish Club is
based in Cheltenham with most of our events also in Cheltenham, although we will
sometimes try to have events in other parts of Gloucestershire as well. In its
first 6 months the club gained over 30 members, well beyond expectations, and
the club continues to grow.

Some background information:
Cheltenham, in the Cotswolds
in Gloucestershire, UK, currently has four established language societies:
French, German, Italian and Spanish. Each of these exists to promote the
language and culture of the corresponding countries through talks and
presentations. Meetings are held at regular intervals, varying from every two
weeks to once a month depending on the club or society, and usually with a break
during the summer months. A number of social events are sometimes also
organised, and some of the societies have regular informal conversation
evenings. The French, German, Spanish and Swedish clubs/societies are part of
the Cheltenham Language Clubs
Network.
